Following the success of the first ships from books, Eaglemoss launched a survey to help pick further bonus issues. Some of these have been released as convention and direct purchase exclusives, while others are available more widely through the usual retailers. Individual issues are also available separately without the need to subscribe to the whole series.Įaglemoss have released several additional ships and variants, including mirror universe, concept, and non-canon ships. In some European markets the subscription includes a premium option where with a small additional payment shuttles from the shuttle sets are sent as occasional extras. A separate subscription is available for the XL series in the US, other releases, such as bonus issues and shuttle sets typically need to be ordered separately (and in some markets no subscription is avail for anything). The series is offered on a subscription model in most markets, featuring at least the regular issues and special issues. The series has launched subsequently in many other countries around the world, sometimes releasing the series under a different running order or with a shorter run. The series is distributed by Deagostini in Japan, starting in May 2014, following its own 2012 test run. This followed an initial test run in the UK in 2012. The series began in the UK and Ireland in August 2013, and the US in October of the same year. The Akira was designed to be constructed quickly but still pack a lot of fire-power. A small engineering hull projects from the back on two struts which combine into a single beam that holds the two nacelles in place. The primary hull includes a navigational deflector mounted to the ventral side of the saucer. The Akira-Class has a similar look to other ships of the Perimeter Defense Directive era like the Steamrunner-Class: the shape is more "box-like" and the nacelles and hull are much more integrated, all in an attempt to create a sturdier design. Several Akira-Class ships were lost in battle but their overall performance was solid and the craft remains in production in the early 25th century at several fleetyards. The craft saw widespread adoption in the 2370s, serving in combat against the Borg and Dominion. The goal was to create small but potent ships that could replace the aging reserves which has not seen major combat refurbishment for decades. One of several ships designed as part of the Perimeter Defense Directive, the first Akira-Class ships were produced as part of the large fleet replacement program that followed the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2367. Akira-Class starships are combat patrol ships operated by Starfleet History
